The Consistency Spell for Work

You know exactly what you are supposed to do to move the needle. You have the plan, the offer, the content calendar, and the system you set up but used only once. Even though you are not confused about what needs to happen, you cannot seem to make yourself do it again tomorrow, the day after that, or the day after that.

This lack of consistency doesn’t happen because you do not care or because you are lazy. This happens over and over because somewhere between knowing what needs to be done and actually doing it, something breaks down. The motivation runs out, and the energy shifts out of your favor. Life happens, or “life be life-ing”, as I always say. And then the brain spiral starts, and the doubt comes up. And right behind the doubt comes the shame, the guilt. And the corrosive feeling that you should have this figured out by now.

I have a spell for that.

What Twenty Years in HR Taught Me About Consistency

Before I was The Business Witch, I spent over two decades in human resources. And one of my least favorite parts of that work was employee relations, specifically employee discipline centered around behavioral change. When someone was not performing consistently, the standard corporate solution was a 30-, 60-, or 90-day performance improvement plan. Shape up or ship out. Change your behavior or lose your job.

Was that a motivator? Sometimes. But what those plans mostly created was fear, anger, and stress for everyone involved. And underneath all of that pressure, the behavioral change rarely stuck. It was also almost always a one-size-fits-all approach, which, while understandable for companies with hundreds or thousands of employees, missed the single most important truth about human behavior: People change not because they are afraid of the consequences, but because something inside them genuinely clicks into place.

Many traditional productivity systems fail to give what people need to make the change stick.

I carried that knowledge with me when I left corporate. And when my clients started coming to me with consistency struggles, I recognized immediately that the traditional tools, such as the calendars, the timers, and the habit trackers, were doing the same thing those performance plans did. They addressed the behavior without touching what was underneath it.

That is the energy this spell was channeled for.

How This Spell Was Born and How it Addresses the Consistency Problem

I am a psychic and a Spirit channel. That means that some of what I bring to this work does not come from research or training, it comes through me, and this spell is one of those things.

I was sitting with the energy of consistency after coming up against this block for me and my own business.

The brain wants a dopamine hit. It wants to feel rewarded for the effort it is making. And most productivity systems give it nothing. No signal. No satisfaction. No moment of completion that the nervous system can actually feel.

I kept turning it over in my head, feeling where the block lives, not just for me, but for a lot of women in business. That’s when the bowls came through. Then I saw the coins and heard the sound of the coin hitting the metal in my head.

After I channeled it, I got curious. I wanted to know if there was any science underneath what I had received, and there was. Research on auditory stimuli confirms that rhythmic, resonant sound engages the brain's reward pathways, and that when a sound becomes consistently associated with a completed action, the nervous system begins to recognize it as a signal that something real has been accomplished.

One of my clients struggled with consistency for most of her life. She noticed what needed to change, looked at her habits, tried the traditional methods, and fell off every time. Then we talked about the consistency issue as a spell, and it started working. She now uses this for project work in her business.

One Thing. Not Everything.

Before diving into the spell, I want to say something important, especially if consistency has been a lifelong struggle and overwhelm tends to be your shadow.

When you decide to change something, the temptation is to change everything at once. You say you are going to post every day, reach out to ten potential clients a week, clean up your systems, finish the offer, update the website, and start the newsletter. And then Tuesday happens, and you miss one thing, and the whole structure collapses, and you are back at the beginning feeling worse than when you started.

The truth is: consistency fails when you try to do everything at once.

So, this spell is built around one action, not a full list of things to do. Choose one thing you are willing to do every single day for 7 days. That one thing is your anchor, and it is also your spell. And the reason it works is because the brain can actually hold that one thing. It is small enough to do on the hardest days and meaningful enough to build something real.

Identifying the Block Before You Cast

Before you cast, it helps to know what you are actually working with. Building consistent habits is not the easiest thing to do, and the system breaks down in specific places, for specific reasons, and those reasons are worth understanding before you build an energetic container around them.

This is another way that a lack of consistency is caused–the block underneath remains unacknowledged and unaddressed.

Here are three ways to identify the block that is holding you back:

  1. Listen to what you say to yourself the moment you sit down to do the one thing you committed to. To be clear, you are not listening for what you believe about your work in theory, but the actual words running through your mind in the seconds before you begin, or the seconds when you consider stopping. Those words are the block. Write them down exactly as they come, without cleaning them up. What you find there is usually what the spell is working against.

  2. Journal with a specific question rather than an open page. Ask yourself this: what is the one thing I keep not doing, and what am I telling myself about why? Write without editing for 10 minutes. Do not stop to think. The answer that surprises you is usually the true one.

  3. The Consistency Tarot Spread, for those who work with cards. Lay six cards in a simple line or a slight arc. Card 1 is where you are right now, not where you want to be, but where you actually are. Card 2 is what is actually slowing you down beneath the surface-level story you have been telling yourself. Card 3 is the belief or pattern underneath that. Card 4 is the medicine–what changes this, and what this moment is asking of you. Card 5 is the grounded action to take next. Card 6 is what opens if you follow through–your movement card, and what becomes possible on the other side.

Once you know what you are working with, you are ready to cast.

Your Herbal Allies

These herbs each carry their own energy and history, each one chosen specifically for what this spell is doing.

Rosemary has been used for centuries for clarity, memory, and protection. It sharpens focus, clears mental fog, and keeps your energy field clean and grounded while you work. When you are being consistent, and your words and actions are going out into the world repeatedly, rosemary helps ensure they land the way you intended.

Lemon balm calms the mind and supports emotional balance and clarity. When the overwhelm starts to creep in, when the doubt gets loud, lemon balm is the herb that brings you back to center.

Chamomile promotes calm, clear thought. It is the herb of steadiness, of the settled nervous system, of the woman who can sit at her bench and do the work without the noise of everything else pulling her away. In this spell, it supports the kind of inner quiet that consistency requires.

Salt is your protection for this spell. When you cast, it goes around the candle as a barrier, a circle of energetic protection that holds the space of the spell and keeps it clear from outside interference, like the doubt that comes from other people's opinions, the noise of comparison, or the energy that is not yours.

Candle Color

Choose your candle color based on where you are and what you need most right now.

White is the color of a clear mind and new beginnings. It is an excellent choice if you are starting this spell for the first time or beginning a completely new phase of your work.

Blue carries healing energy, focus, and the support of change. Choose blue if consistency has been a long struggle and you are asking for genuine energetic support in shifting the pattern.

Orange brings creativity, organization, and the energy of success. Choose orange if you are in an active building phase and need momentum and motivation to carry the practice forward.

The Consistency Spell

What you will need:

  • 7 coins

  • two metal bowls (or anything that makes a sharp, loud-enough “tink” sound)

  • a pen and two small pieces of paper

  • your chosen candle

  • rosemary, lemon balm, chamomile, and salt

Dress your candle with the herbs, rosemary, lemon balm, and chamomile, or sprinkle them in a circle around the base of the candle. Sprinkle a ring of salt around the candle as a protective barrier for your spell and your energy while you work.

Hold the 7 coins in your dominant hand. Feel their weight. These coins represent 7 days of deliberate, intentional action in the direction of your wealth and your business. They are energetic currency.

Set your intention aloud before you light the candle. Here are three examples to work from. Choose the one that is most true for you right now, or use them as a guide to find your own words.

I show up for my work every day with focus, clarity, and trust in the process.

I show up one day and one action at a time.

I build wealth and success through steady, consistent action, and I trust that what I am building accumulates even when I cannot yet see it.

For guidance on understanding intentions and how they work, see this past Grimoire page.

Remember to ground and protect your energy (see the Grounding & Protection section of this past blog post), and when your intention is spoken, light your candle.

Under the first bowl, place a small piece of paper with your one chosen action written on it. Under the second bowl, place a second piece of paper with the word “Completed” written on it. Put all seven coins in the first bowl.

Each day, after you have completed your action, move one coin from the first bowl into the second. Do not move the coin before the action is done. The physical act of moving the coin is part of the spell. And listen for the sound it makes when it lands in the metal bowl. That sound is your nervous system being told that you kept your word. That you showed up. That the spell is working.

The candle spell portion is most powerful when repeated. Plan to burn a candle for at least three full 7-day rounds, allowing each round to build on the one before it. What you are doing goes beyond building a habit. You are rewriting an energetic pattern. That takes more than one week. Give it the time it deserves.

The bowl and coin portion of the spell can be used over and over again. I use my bowls every week to set my intention for my projects, posting, writing, and admin tasks.

Another spell you can pair this practice with is the Peacock Visibility Spell, for when you need to regularly post to social media, for example.

A note on fire safety: please work on a heat-safe surface away from anything flammable. Keep your herbs away from the open flame and never leave a lit candle unattended. Make sure the candle is fully extinguished before leaving your space.

The Medicine

This spell came through because the traditional tools were just not enough. Because calendars and timers are not useless, but they speak only to the behavior, and they leave the energy completely unaddressed. Your nervous system needs a signal. Your spirit needs a container. And the part of you that has started and stopped and started again needs something to hold onto that is stronger than motivation, because motivation comes and goes.

Remember: One coin at a time. One day at a time. One action at a time.

This is how wealth is built, how skillsets are learned, and how you become the master craftswoman. Not through a single monumental effort, but through the consistent (sometimes) unglamorous devotion of showing up again and again.

Consistency is not a personality trait that is turned on and off. Consistency is a practice that you build over time, and now you have a spell for it. ✨
